About snowkiting

Did you know that you can travel dozens of kilometers on a kite with only 1-2 knots of wind?

We can provide training in English, Ukrainian and Russian languages.

KITE SCHOOL, WHO NEEDS IT AND WHY?
I invite adults to plunge into the world of extreme sports in order to:

  • awaken in yourself the drive and crazy emotions in the winter time (at the time when you want to hide in the “den” and do not get out until spring)
  • strengthen your physical fitness (there is no place for lazy people here)
  • improve your health (as the classes are always held in the fresh air + snowkiting is a coordinating, technical sport)
  • Thanks to professional instructors, safely and correctly enter the world trend of the last winters – snowkiting.

WHAT DO I NEED FOR THE CLASS?

  • Positive attitude
  • Skis (we provide all the necessary equipment)
  • Comfortable sports clothes (dress warmly and according to the weather, taking into account that you will have to move a lot: pants and a jacket made of membrane fabric are perfect)
  • Mask glasses or sunglasses
  • Helmet (Mandatory. If you don’t have a helmet, we will provide one).

HOW IS THE TRAINING?
Our school conducts training on any days with favorable weather conditions. As a rule, the season starts in the first days of December and ends in the middle of March.
The day before the departure we agree with you on the place/time of the meeting, having previously familiarized with the weather forecast (we do not forget that wind, ice or snow is still important to us).
On the day of the class we meet and start the training, which lasts from 2 to 3 hours (this is the optimal time to make independent rides already on the first class).

Snowkiting is a unique sport because it gives you the amazing opportunity to choose almost any place to ski (we call them “spots”) and discover new horizons. We choose the best spots for training under a specific weather forecast. The main spots where we conduct training are listed below:

  • Lake Wabamun
  • Lake Pigeon
  • Lake Ste. Anne

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD BE SPENT ON TRAINING?
A lot depends on the student:

  • their initial preparation
  • learning objectives
A minimum of 10 hours is required to fully master snowkiting.

Learning to ski allows the student to:

  • move effortlessly
  • start more easily
  • maintain speed
If you have at least a little skiing experience, it will make the learning process much easier, so the choice in favor of skis is obvious. If you have never skied before, but you know how to board, you can choose a snowboard.
In other cases, skis will be the preferred choice, but the final decision is yours.

I have tried kiting on water before, will it be difficult to transition to snowkite?
Knowing how to kite on water will greatly reduce the time it takes to transition to a winter kite. This is a huge plus for you.
The only thing is that you will only have to get used to the characteristics of gliding on hard surfaces. This will take some time.

Will I be able to do winter kiting?
Snowkiting is not a physically demanding sport. It is more of a coordination and technical sport.

What should I wear when snowkiting?
You should dress for the weather, taking into account that you will be hot during the activity. Pants and a jacket made of membrane fabric are perfect for snowkiting. Don’t forget gloves and comfortable shoes.

WHICH IS BETTER FOR WINTER – FOILS OR INFLATABLE KITES?
Both types of kites are suitable, but we teach exclusively on parafoils.
As for parafoil kites, they have much more resource and are much more comfortable to use in winter.
Riding a parafoil in winter is much more comfortable as it is possible to ride in weaker winds.

What kind of weather is good for snowkiting?

For training the optimal wind strength is 3-6 meters per second. An experienced kiteboarder can ride in winds from 0.5 to 12 meters per second.
The minimum air temperature for training is at least 10-12 degrees of frost.
